< Last blog by Yale >

Sadly, it is my last blog about Interactive television. Hopefully you guys enjoyed my blog and understand about my topic. Anyway I need to finish up my last blog :) Let's go !!!

Overall, Interactive television looks like it launched well into South Korea but we are still not really sure how iTV (interactive television) will looks like and how iTV will be delivered to homes (Jensen, F. & Toscan, C. 1999). Now, Interactive television have abundant contents and expense of settop box are lower and big companies which are Microsoft, AOL, AT&T etc. are cognising an strategic importance of iTV.
IF you still remember a result of my survey (quantitative), it shows South Korean prefer Interactive television than traditional television. In response to viewers, I hope entire of Korea interactive tv change to digital television from existing form of analogue.

Thank you for read all of my blogs everyone and also thank people who participated in my survey :)

Love,
Yale

Interactive TV industry in Korea

Now I move onto talk about Interactive television industry in Korea. The first interactive television launched into Korea through by CJ cable net. They tried to open the door to lead people into the digital world and they got pretty good result as a first running company. For attract people, they provide more than 100 different channels freely, 21 PP live channels (PPTV) and a video-on-demand (VOD) services.
(KT Mega TV)

Firstly, I can tell you guys about KT mega TV :) KT mega TV is the main telecom operator in South Korea and provides a high definition internet protocol television (HD IPTV) service.

(Hana TV)
Then South Korea has one more telecom which is "Hana TV". It launched on July 2006 and assured 500,000 viewers on July 2007 in one year. Hana television provides a diversity of video-on-demand (VOD) and it is also able to set settop box up to connect to the broadband. Hana TV also launched Live television service and brought customised multimedia service to viewer such as shopping, internet and telephone service, movie, language study, and Finance etc. I think our life is keep changing to comfortable to live through using interactive television.
Of course, there is advantage and disadvantage :)

In my opinion, for the advantage of interactive television is, it could be a great experience to the customer if he or she never experienced it before. "Interactive and personalised TV offers significant opportunities to advertisers, advertising agencies, TV channels but most importantly can turn passive viewers to active participants, enhancing the TV viewing experience (Antonoff, M. 1992)."
Most of people say, "Digital divide" is the most reason of disadvantage for interactive television marketing because the one who has a digital television and who has not. It would be matter to viewers and fortunately, it does not matter to viewer these days because during few years, it is not the majority choice for viewer and rapidly increased and widen the audiences.
